Fitting In at the MySQL Conference
April 16th, 2008 by Richard Chart
I am posting from sunny (if chilly) Santa Clara at the MySQL 2008 User’s Conference in what in turning out to be a very exciting week. Later in the conference I will be presenting on how we use MySQL in an unusual way to achieve scalability in EM7, but for today I am just soaking up as much as I can from the community surrounding MySQL here.
The versatility of the product was really exposed during the MySQL Customer Advisory Board (CAB) meeting on Monday. We were very pleased to be asked to be part of the MySQL CAB and the opportunity to present at the meeting was the cherry on top. With participation from the likes of eBay and Intel, scale takes on a whole new meaning. Petabyte database anyone?
Matt and I were elated to be part of this marathon session - how could we not be thrilled to be so involved with MySQL’s planning for future product versions? And of course it helps our own product planning to know what our key technology partner is thinking for the next couple of product cycles.
By the evening, the conversation had progressed to the point where we had new team member Mike McFadden discussing the finer points of Frisbee Golf with MySQL Founder David Axmark. Now he’s just trying to figure out how to work a round into his schedule this week…
For fun, everything you have ever wanted to know about Frisbee Golf:
