IBM Banned

April 1st, 2008 by Julia Lim

IBM20logo Well, it’s official. People are not giving details about what went wrong with an IBM contract with the EPA, but clearly something went very bad if it prompted an EPA investigation and a federal grand jury to subpoena IBM employees. It’s unclear what happened and just how long the banning could last as the investigation moves forward. If you believe the IBM spokesperson, the company had no idea there was even a problem between IBM and the EPA.

And IBM is not just banned from doing new work for the EPA; it’s banned from all new federal contract work because the government agencies have a reciprocal agreement saying that if one of them suspends a company, the rest do so as well. Banned from the single largest IT buyer in the world. Wow.

All of this hits just in time for FOSE, the big government IT show starting today at the Washington Convention Center. We’re hoping some of you will come by our booth and discuss. What could they have done?? And if it was that bad, how could the company not have known about it? We’ll keep our ears open for sure and stay tuned as more details come out.
