Interop.net Hot Stage — It’s History

April 15th, 2008 by Julia Lim

Well, Hot Stage is officially over. All of the configuration and tweaking that will occur before the equipment shows up in Vegas has been completed. I think that the ScienceLogic effort at Hot Stage was a great success. One of the great things about EM7, is that as an appliance, we didn’t really spend any time getting the system on the network, instead we spent the time getting customizations done for the show.

So, what did we really do while we were out there? First, we provided assistance to other vendors who needed help getting their devices set-up for monitoring from EM7. This usually meant setting up SNMP, setting Trap destinations and other such various tasks. Once that was completed we spent time setting up the rules of monitoring that the lead engineers were looking for.

At the end of the two weeks, I think we ended up with something fairly interesting. First, we’re not only monitoring traditional things like up/down and app performance, but interesting stats like temperature and power consumption (the NOC was using about 18KW at Hot Stage).

Second, we’ve set-up the EM7 help desk system to be ready for not only tickets relating to IT infrastructure at the show, but also tickets for electricians, dock works, and other non-network related tasks. And finally, we’ve build the monitoring that will be necessary for the Interop.net network to deliver 100% uptime to the show exhibitors, which is no small task for the largest temporary network in the world.
