Network World’s Sevcik and Wetzel had two posts this week that we really enjoyed, one about networks needing “fire marshals” and “firefighters” to both prevent and respond to network management problems. The other was about the performance management maturity scale, and how reactive diagnosis, proactive intervention, quality warranty and portfolio management can help to identify how your company’s performance compares.

The evolving virtualization ecosystem is discussed on the Server Virtualization blog. As Hypervisors and VMs are becoming commoditized, there is a shift in emphasis towards user interface and management tools.

Hmmm. What happened with MySQL? This week there was a bunch of chatter about MySQL “reserving” some features for paying customers that has the open source community atwitter. Richard, Matt and Mike were out at the MySQL User’s Conference this week, including attending and getting to present at the company’s Customer Advisory Board meeting on Monday. They’re sleeping it off after a fun conference and a red-eye flight but we’ll get the skinny from them when they’re conscious again.
