The harsh reality is that no one besides your CFO cares how much money you saved by virtualizing your network, server or strage environment when something goes awry. Tony Bishop notes that without dynamic monitoring, enterprise clouds will fail. As IT environments become more complex, CIOs must invest in real-time monitoring, metering and logging that incorporates performance and health. Traditional tools are no longer sufficient and operations teams need to set thresholds based on new realities and have the tools to help detect deviations from the established acceptable levels. I think they’ve been reading our website on the benefits of EM7 G3.
Gathering and presenting key performance data in easy-to-read dashboards is rapidly spreading to government agencies. Dashboards like the Federal T dashboard help meet the Obama administration’s goals for program transparency and accountability mandated in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. GCN outlines 5 pitfalls to avoid with performance management dashboards, including: faulty data, the wrong data, too much data, long development processes and user neglect when dashboards don’t keep up with users’ needs as projects evolve.
A recent survey shows that cloud computing is indeed becoming anchored in enterprise IT with 66% of IT managers reporting they have dedicated budget for cloud computing; 71% expect their cloud computing budgets to grow over the next two years. 82% are in some stage of trial, implementation or use of public clouds and 83% said the same for private clouds. The drivers on whether to use public private clouds or build out public clouds was more diverse based on the IT influencer. Going for private clouds – 45% IT, 36% line of business stakeholders and 24%application development teams Those opting for public clouds 45% IT, 41% application developers and 24% line of business stakeholders. (The numbers do not add up to 100% because respondents were allowed to select multiple top influencers.) Where do you land in terms of influencer and public or private?

- 56% preferred Christmas; 25% New Year’s Eve
- 52% do their “work” during weekday evenings, 32% during business hours, 15% on weekends
- 70% said security and process controls do not impact their chances of hacking a corporate network; 15% said they have made it easier
