Last week the ScienceLogic UK team again participated in the annual Cloud Expo Europe event at London Olympia, and what a terrific show it was! There was a fine range of speakers across eight conference theaters, so again plenty of valuable content, and it was well promoted, as evidenced by the attendance. The doors opened at 10:00am on Tuesday. By 10:05am the hall felt full. I have never seen a show take-off as fast, and on the first day it stayed busy the entire time until the bell rang at 5:30pm. There was a perceptible difference in intent from government and enterprise attendees in 2013 when compared with the 2012 event. This year the people I spoke to generally were already using a public cloud offering in some shape or form, often having started with SaaS email, web services, and cloud backup solutions. They were at the event to find out how they could do more, what were the next steps, and who are the key technology and service players as they look to move beyond the “quick wins” to their trickier applications. As always, we saw a big range of enterprise size, from the SMB trying to do away with internal IT completely, to a cloud architect for an entire UK government department looking to formulate long term strategy. It was great to see many of our service provider customers at the event as well – both exhibitors and attendees.
ScienceLogic is proud to be a founder member of the Cloud Industry Forum (CIF), and in 2013 CIF was again well represented at Cloud Expo Europe with its own Knowledge Transfer Theatre. In 2012 the focus for the CIF theatre sessions was training: delivering a series of sessions that together comprised a “cloud 101” course, complete with a test and certificate at the end of the day. This year the focus for CIF presentations was on trust, or more specifically, how do you know you can trust your cloud service provider with your vital corporate data.
It was a real pleasure to have Peter Rossi from Skyscape Cloud Services join our own Antonio Piraino in the CIF theatre and present on how Skyscape is successfully using the latest best of breed technologies and processes to go beyond UK government requirements for trusted cloud service delivery. Antonio actually double-dipped in the CIF theatre, also contributing to a panel discussion on Cloud Service Prover contracts earlier on Tuesday.
We are making our plans for Cloud Expo Europe 2014, when the event will grow to use another floor at London Olympia, should be fun!Tagged with: CIF, cloud events, Cloud Expo Europe, cloud industry forum, cloud service provider, CSP, ScienceLogic, Skyscape Cloud Services, Smart IT
